Day 3

The phone rings.

I jump in my seat at the/ interruption. It is only then that I realize that I/ have been typing the whole night and my eyes have/ not left the computer screen.

I answer the call.

“Status?”/ The voice at the other end of the line asks./

“Almost done, Sir,” I answer. I rub my eyes, wishing/ that I could rub off the fatigue.

“I expect the/ file sent by noon.” The line cuts off. I do/ not get a chance to acknowledge the order or even/ request for an extension.

I look back at my computer/ screen and resume typing. [104 words]
